Individual Inventor Project
The goal of this project was to create a useful item on Inventor. Each item had it's own little criteria and I chose the phone holder. The phone holder had to do it's job of holding the phone as well as be smaller than 5in by 5in by 5in.
This is where I first started my design. I started in the top left with the basic shape I wanted it to have so it could hold my phone. Then I added some thickness to it as well as the little triangular supports. From there I added a view from the back to show where the triangle are located. I also decided to round the top corners. I ended with an isometric view so I could see what it's supposed to look like when I build it in Inventor.
1. The first step to making my phone folder was to make a box.
2. From there I made some cuts in the box. The first was a big cut, that is where I can put my phone in. Then, I made a smaller second cut, that makes a little bump on the the front of the phone holder so that my phone won't fall off. 3. I also made small triangles on the back on the phone holder so that the hole thing doesn't fall over from the weight of the phone. 4. I also filleted some of the corners of the phone holder so that I don't stab my fingers when I put my phone in it. |
This is what the finished object looks like.
To actually 3-D print my object I uploaded it to maker bot.
I learned that it can be less expensive to design some items on a 3-D printer than to buy them from a store. It was fun to learn and actually go through a design process of sketching my own design to building it on Inventor. Even though 3-D printers can be expensive they can make up their cost by helping you build many things.
